Interested applicants should be energetic, patient, and good-humored individuals with a demonstrated passion for service to others and the potential to serve as strong role models for DC's at-risk youth. You may apply for and fulfill more than one position. All university students are welcome to apply for any of the following positions:
Available Opportunities:
Medic/EMT: Free Kick seeks one qualified medic to be on-hand at all soccer sessions (2 hrs/wk on Sundays during our Spring pilot program), prepared to administer care for anything ranging from slight cuts to emergency situations. Applicants must be certified EMTs in the District of Columbia.
Soccer Mentors: Several positions are available to be filled by recreational or competetive soccer players. As our goal is to ultimately foster meaningful relationships with our participants, applicants must be patient, energetic, and good with kids. All skill levels welcome - what matters more is your commitment to helping our community's at-risk youth in a fun, laid-back, yet structured environment. Applicants must be available for two hours on Sunday afternoons semester (some absences permissible for schedule/class conflicts) as well as at a one-week training session in early January 2011.
Spanish-Speaking Soccer Mentors: The above description applies for this position, with the additional requirement that applicants speak Spanish fluently - either as native speakers or with certified proficiency.
Math Tutors: Free Kick seeks 10-12 college students majoring or minoring in Mathematics to volunteer for 30 minutes every Sunday. Applicants must be patient working with underserved youth and passionate about the subject matter, and must be available for one week prior to the program starting for a curriculum orientation and training session.
